1960 Lt. Colonel Edward M. McMahon, U. S. Army, retired

 

Lieutenant Colonel Edward Maurice McMahon, United States Army, retired, was born on 9 March 1909 in Key West, Florida.  He was the son of Martha and Edward M. McMahon.

Colonel McMahon enlisted in the United States Army on 27 September 1934.  In 1935 he was assigned to the 11th Signal Company, Schofield Barracks, Honolulu, Hawaii Territory.  Ed retired from the Army on 30 Jun 1956.  Nothing further is known about his military service.

In late 1956 or early 1957, Colonel McMahon and his wife, Ann, were living in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Ed was working for Motorola as an engineer and as an administrator.

Colonel McMahon was our 6th Chapter President, serving in 1960.  Ed completed Lt. Colonel James Farmer’s term of office when Jim resigned sometime during 1960.

About 1961 or 1962, Colonel McMahon and his wife moved to the Spokane, Washington area.  Ed died in Spokane on 22 August 1985.  He was survived by his wife, the former Ann Tyhanic, and two children.  He was predeceased by his son, Thomas Joseph McMahon (13 Nov 1950 – 12 Aug 1959).  After Ed’s death, Ann moved to Fircrest (Tacoma), Washington.  She returned to Sun City, Arizona for a short time before moving back to Tacoma, Washington in 1994.
