2014 MOAA Leadership Award
Colonel Chuck Schluter, USA (Ret)
At our business luncheon held at McCormick Ranch Golf Club on 12 Dec 2014, Colonel Chuck Schluter, USA (Ret), was presented the National MOAA Leadership Award by Chapter President Lt. Colonel Jim Cullison, USAF retired.
Colonel Charles “Chuck” Schluter, U. S. Army (Ret) first joined our chapter in 1998. The chapter at that time was on the verge of collapsing. Chuck, attending his first meeting, volunteered to be our chapter president. Quickly reorganizing our chapter and assigning various chapter duties to those in attendance, Chuck began the process of training and mentoring his “volunteers”. Just as quickly, the chapter began to grow, both in size and professionalism.
Chuck remained our chapter president for three years, the longest term ever held by a member in that office. Chuck has held several other positions in our chapter since, including being our ESGR liaison which he still holds today. Undoubtedly, the keen organizational skills and sage insight possessed by Colonel Schluter, coupled with his infectious personality, set the stage for what has become an outstanding chapter, The Arizona Chapter.
In addition to his ministrations to our chapter, Chuck has served a six year term on the national MOAA Board of Directors. On the state level, for his tireless efforts advocating for our veterans, Chuck was inducted into the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame in 2007. He later served as the president of the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame Society and is currently the immediate past president.
