  • 11 Jan:  OutingPlease join your fellow chapter members on the 11th for a bite to eat at Portillo’s on Shea just off the 101 in Scottsdale.  Portillo’s will donate 20% of your meal purchase between 12 & 9 pm to our Scholarship Fund.  Feel free to bring your friends and neighbors, but provide them with the attached flyer.  Click here to download the COUPON FLYER and present it to the Portillo’s cashier.  Those with mobile phones, simply show the downloaded flyer on your phone.
  • Jan:  Nick Lowery, Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame and the Nick Lowery Youth Foundation.  Nick also founded Champions of the Homeless 11 years ago and has supported St. Vincent De Paul’s with 33 special uplifting celebrity volunteer events to date.
  • Feb:  Colonel Whit Wright, USA, Fort Huachuca Garrison Commander.  Colonel Wright will speak on Fort Huachuca’s economic and military impact on Arizona as well as it’s mission and accomplishments.  
  • Mar:  Colonel Thomas H. Kirk, Jr., USAF (Ret).  Colonel Kirk served in the Korean War and in the Vietnam War where he was held as a POW for 1,964 days.
  • Apr:  ASU  ROTC Scholarship PresentationsPlease join us as we present scholarships, one each to ASU’s ROTC programs;  Army, Air Force and Navy.  Each cadet will give a brief presentation regarding their aspirations for a military career.
  • 19 Apr:  Golf Tournament at Starfire Golf Club, Scottsdale.  Please join us for a round of golf, the proceeds of which will provide scholarships to ROTC cadets at ASU.  If you don’t golf, or can’t make it, please consider becoming a donor or a hole sponsor for a very nominal sum.
  • May:  Dr. Eduardo Pagan, Ph.D., Professor of History ASU:  Dr. Pagan speaks on the meaning of Memorial Day.  An author of three books, he has co-hosted History Detectives on PBS and has been featured on several domestic and international television shows and documentaries.
  • June, July & August:  No business meetings scheduled during the summer months.
  • 01 July:  Arizona DiamondbacksPlease join your fellow chapter members and friends for an afternoon of fun as our Arizona Diamondbacks take on their division rival San Francisco Giants.
  • 23 Aug:  Amazon Fulfillment Center Tour:  Join us as we tour the new Amazon facility in Chandler.  Hurry to sign up, though; the tour is limited to only a maximum of 30 individuals.  
  • Sep:  Colonel Ross C. Poppenberger, Yuma Proving Grounds Commanding Officer(Flyer Pending) Colonel Poppenberger will speak to us of the mission of the Yuma Proving Grounds.  Yuma Proving Ground (YPG) is a United States Army facility and one of the largest military installations in the world. Situated in southwestern La Paz County and western Yuma County in southwestern Arizona, U.S., approximately 30 miles (48 km) north-east of the city of Yuma, the proving ground is used for testing military equipment and encompasses 1,307.8 square miles (3,387.2 km²) in the northwestern Sonoran Desert.

2017

  • Jan:  Mr. Matthew K. Scott, Sons of the American Revolution, Arizona Color Guard Commander, will speak on the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier.  Matt is the grandson of the man who was involved in the selection and burial of the soldier that was buried there in November 1921.
  • Feb:  Veterans Heritage Project – “Connecting Students With Veterans”.  Ms. Brittany Henritze, VHP Program Coordinator speaks about the groundbreaking program dedicated to connecting students with veterans in order to record and preserve the stories of their service to our nation in the U. S. Library of Congress for future generations.
  • Mar:    Jack Holder, Pearl Harbor survivor, Naval aviator, and veteran of both the Pacific and European theaters.  Jack participated in the Battle of Midway, flew 48 missions over Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands, then 56 missions over the English Channel. (cancelled – ill, rescheduled for Sep)

  • Jan 16:  Colonel Wanda A. Wright, USAF (Ret), Director, Arizona Department of Veterans Affairs (ADVS) will bring our chapter up to date on the mission of ADVS to support our state’s veterans.
  • Feb 20:  Joan Fudala, Community Historian/Author.  How Hollywood supported WW-II pilot training in Metro Phoenix.  Leading producers, actors and photographers created a civilian company, Southwest Airways, that built four basic pilot training bases throughout the Valley of the Sun to train aviation cadets for WW-II service.
  • Mar 12:  Captain (F) Paul L. Schnur, MD, FACS “Serving with Honor: Mayo Clinic and the Military” video & discussion of Mayo Clinic’s commitment to serve every military branch since the Civil War.
  • Apr 16:  ASU  ROTC Scholarship Presentations.  Our chapter’s inaugural ROTC scholarship award program is offering three scholarships, one each to ASU’s ROTC programs;  Army, Air Force and Navy. 
  • Apr 21:  Golf TournamentThursday 08:00 shotgun start.  Stonecreek Golf Club, 4435 E. Paradise Village Parkway South, just south of Cactus and west of Tatum.
  • May 21:  Captain Frank M. Hoak, III, USN, retired Naval Intelligence Officer.  “10 Days in North Korea – August 2015”.  Captain Hoak will speak on his recent  trip to the land of the belligerent war posturing dictator Kim Jong-un.

  • Jul 17:  Please join us for a Baseball Outing, Arizona Diamondbacks vs LA Dodgers at Chase Field.
  • Sep 17:  Officer Jennifer Eastman, MS, Phoenix Police Department.  Officer Eastman will offer an enlightening insight into the Phoenix Police Communications Bureau which averages just below 6,400 calls per day.

  • Mar 14:  RADM E. Connie Mariano, MD, USN (Ret.), FACPCenter for Executive Medicine, Scottsdale.  Dr. Mariano was President Bill Clinton’s personal physician at the White House.
  • Apr 18:  Dr. Randall H. Groth, Ph.D.   Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for Arizona.
  • Apr 23:  Golf Tournament on Thursday, the 23rd, 08:00 shotgun start.  Stonecreek Golf Club, 4435 E. Paradise Village Parkway South, just south of Cactus and west of Tatum.
  • May 16:  JROTC Scholarship Presentations; plus USAF Veteran Dick Cadallader, speaks on his experience during the Korean War saving the life of a 12 year old severely injured Korean girl.
